Diwali, the festival of lights, it has always been my favourite festival since childhood. Its always been synonymous with fun, excitement, diyas and a lot of sweets. Now that we are on the subject of Sweets, allow me to present to you guys a great new recipe for homemade barfi.

How Much Times and what to expect?

I have shared one of the quick and simple recipes that can be made under 15 mins with very few ingredients and without using the gas burner. This makes it easier for beginners. 

Coconut Barfi Ingredients
2 cup desiccated/grated coconut (Fine)
1/2 cup condensed milk or milkmade 
1/8 tsp cardamom(elaichi) powder (optional) 
4 drops rose essence (optional)
1 drop red food colour
Dry fruits

Coconut Barfi Preparation method

Coconut Barfi can be made in many ways and out of the them, i am going to pick the most simple n quick one :-

  • Put into a bowl some coconut, desiccated coconut. you can also use home made hand grated coconut but make sure u are not using the black part of the coconut.
  • Add condensed milk to the bowl of coconut in small quantities and keep checking to achieve a thick consistency.
  • No need to put extra sugar as condensed milk is already sweet and at same stage we will put rose essence/cardamom powder into the mixture.
  • Mix it well until it turns gooey and prepare a semi soft dough.
  • Take half of the dough in another bowl and add the red food colour into the mix.
  •  Transfer the white mix into a greased container or butter paper and make a square and then above the white mix put the coloured mix evenly with the help of spatula.
  • Now for garnishing, sprinkle it with nuts and press down with spatula  
  • Allow it to set by refrigerating for 20 mins.
  • Finally, cut it in small square size by a sharp knife and enjoy it.
Points to remember
  • If you want you can use 1/2 cup condense milk and 1/2 cup of sugar powder 
  • by using mixture grinder you can make Powdered Sugar
  • I have used  grated almonds for garnishing but you alsobcan use chopped pistachios or Cashews.
